In North India, especially in Gujarat and Maharashtra, Kartik Month is also known as Damodar Mahina or Maas. Damodar Month is named after Great Lord Krishna.

You must have read / heard that Mother Yashoda keep tying Lord Krishna to the grinding stone. It is one of the most popular legends during the his childhood. The said even is to be believed to have taken place in this sacred month.

Damodar Month in 2023 in North India is from October 29 to November 27.

Bhagwan Krishna was very naughty in his childhood till adulthood. Maiya yashoda was fed up once with his extreme naughtiness, hence she tied him to a rice grinding mortar which is very heavy to lift or move by a child of Krishna's age.

This act of a human tying the Supreme Lord has a greater symbolic meaning in its own. Via this act Lord Krishna revealed to the world that the Lord will accept the dominance of Love & he can only be bound by the Love of his devotees like this.

Damodar Month

There is a popular belief that Lord Krishna can be easily pleased in this month. There is also a very popular belief that Krishna showed his mother yashoda the entire galaxy when she told him to open his mouth to see if he is not eating anything wrong.

By looking the scenes of galaxies in his mouth, she fainted and Krishna was smiling at her mischivously.
